Gearing up for another Florida winter. It looks good for the long range forecast. The weather patterns are going to be favorable this year for some great north swells. What we need is a couple of big Nor'easters to change up the bottom so the waves can break the way they are supposed to. So lets get ready to ride.

Surf Heating Up

Waves this weekend. Its coming in again, the waves, they are hitting from south Florida all the way up coast. Yesterday made for some fun surf in the Broward and Palm Beach counties. Waves should still be coming in upcoast today. It has had a long flat spell period this year but the ocean is starting to give back. Get it while you can.

Days of Surf the Documentary

Great news. We are in the process of filming a great documentary on the days of surf, South Florida surfing from the Sixties through today. We are going to have some of the greats tell us some great adventures and let us know what it was like and what it is like now. We will have some fantastic surf footage. Stay with us for updates.

They are a bait and switch company. They have nothing to sell you except a ton of problems..... I had to learn the hard way but learn I did. It was easy to find out this company was a scam by doing a quick search with google , from now on I do the investigation of a company before I do the " I got to get this great deal now before it goes away"

Lay Off with the Lay Off

Whew, it is getting scary out there. More and more we hear about people, not just one or two but thousands at a time getting a pink slip. What are we going to do? This country can not put everyone out of work. It sure seems like an attempt is being made to lay off a lot of us. To me it makes no sense. Just the other day my wife took her car to the dealer ( Dodge ) to have it serviced. This was on a Thursday. The service Mgr. told her that on Wednesday, the previous day, he was notified that this dealership was closing on Wednesday of the next week. That is a one week notice that was given to all the employees at this establishment. They were told that the doors were going to be closed and good luck in trying to find work elsewhere because they could not help them. Some of the mechanics, she spoke with, had fifteen or more years at this particular family run dealership. What do they do now? How do they support a family? Unemployment will help just a little, but for how long! How will they find work in this economy? This story is becoming the norm nowadays. It is hitting all types of careers. Even the mighty Post Office is feeling the crunch. I heard through the grapevine that 25,000 pink slips are set to be handed out at the Post Office in the near future. This is a place that someone could not get fired unless they stole something or they killed someone. Even with that they still had a 50/50 chance of getting there job back. We will get through this. What we need is for the people here in the U S of A, to get up and start participating. Our forefathers took matters into there own hands. They were active in building this country. I think,and I include myself, that we are too much a complacent society. We have had it great for a long time and have not needed to put our backs into building America. It is time to start working at it again. We need to invent, grow get our hands dirty and put ourselves back on track.

Bungee cord leashes

I remember the bungee cord leashes with the leather ankle straps. Man, that was something. Not only did the board fly back at you at a high rate of speed but watch out if the cord wraps around your arm , leg or finger. I haven't heard of any serious injuries from them but when I used those leashes I was surfing Rockaway Beach NY and , in the early 70's, I would say the number of surfers in that area were fractions compared to the number of surfers today. When we would get a few weeks of sizable surf, the bungee leash would stretch out. According to your surfing ability, the times varied between when and how long your leash would stretch before breaking.

Troubled Times

Man, we are all going through a difficult time. It doesn't matter what, who, where or when -- we are all feeling it. My concern is for the safety of every one. People will do some radical things when they are backed up against the wall. Our minds do not function normally under all the stress this economy is putting on us. I feel that soon, the more jobs that are lost, people will go to extreme measures to feed and clothe their families. Insanity will take hold and the streets will not be a very safe place. This will be the beginning. Soon after that our homes will not secure us as the needs of the less fortunate worsen. What I am saying could be a reality. It is hard to believe. If we think about it though, it is not that far off. More and more people are loosing jobs. The feeling of hopelessness is growing. Fears are getting stronger. I remember the fighting at the gas lines in the 70's when we had to ration our fuel. That was just for one item,fuel. What is going to happen when a large portion of Americans are out of work. The savings we have runs out. Our children start to get hungry. We need much more than fuel to survive. This all can very easily happen. We all need to stay aware and prepare. Just be careful. St. James in the Hills

Well we had a great Valentines day. We went to a dinner dance at our Church, St. James in the Hills. We took some video of the event. The band was great. We will have it posted on vimeo.com as soon as it is ready. Father Addison is doing a wonderful job at this church. He is really keeping up with the times here. He is moving the Church out of the past and into the present. It is a Church for both young and old. This dinner dance is the first of I hope many. The music was appealing to all. Road Trip

Well, we got back a few days ago from a road trip upstate to Inverness Florida. We had a great time. It was very relaxing, even though we stayed very busy. While we were in Ft. Myers, we were able to get our friend Jeff on video as he was sailing down river on one of his voyages in the Gulf of Mexico. If you would like to check out the film go to http://vimeo.com/2986634 .
